| 8 | As per family stories, Joe was scheduled to leave the Navy with an honorable discharge on December 8, 1941, finishing up a four-year tour. At the time he was attached to the light cruiser USS Honolulu, CL-48, homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On the morning of December 7, Japan attacked the US Naval Fleet at Pearl Harbor and launching the US into WWII. As a result of the attack, all discharges were immediately suspended and Joe served on active duty for the duration of the war. At some point after the Pearl Harbor attack Joe was assigned to repairing submarines. About the USS Honolulu (CL 47): a Brooklyn-class light cruiser active in the Pacific War (World War II). Honolulu was launched in 1937 and commissioned in 1938. During the Pearl harbor attack on December 7, 1941, the Honolulu only suffered minor hull damage from a near miss from a bomb that exploded under the water. During the war Honolulu served in the Battle of Tassafaronga, the Battle of Kula Gulf, the Battle of Kolombangara and the Battle of Peleliu. She was taken out of action by serious torpedo damage just before the Battle of Leyte Gulf. She was repaired, but not in time to rejoin the war. She was decommissioned in 1947 and was held in reserve until she was scrapped in 1959. | FLORO, Julius J. (I92)

She had moved to a nursing home several years earlier and her daughters visited her often, particularly Denise and Jeanne. However, due to the pandemic and risk to elderly patients at the nursing home, all visitors including family and priests/ministers were banned. Claire spent the last months of her life without any family visitors, and was not able to have a Catholic priest provide the customary Last Rites for her. A traditional funeral was not permitted, so Claire's daughters held a graveside service for just the three of them. I was about 16, 17 years old and she had to demonstrate on stage how to wash hair, cut hair, put rollers on and style. The winner of this competition would be included in the Hairdressers Magazine and won a beautiful trophy. This was the time when Liberace was famous and so she contacted his manager to get permission to call her creation the "Liberace Haircut" and with permission granted she started practicing on her favorite customer (one of the Fournier Funeral Parlor girls across the street from Mrs Forcier's Beauty Salon on Cumberland Street in Woonsocket.) Her model was tall, blonde and, of course, very beautiful. Aunt Noella was a real professional and her Liberace Hairstyle won first prize at the National Hairdressers Convention at the Biltmore Hotel in Providence. Jeannine would put her third finger in the middle of her glass frame and looked at Terry. Terry knew exactly what Jeannine meant. Mom (Teresa (Charest) Herteau) always was close to Terry. These two went on a trip to Florida with Mrs Simonne Glaude to visit Terry's mother in Florida. On the way down they stopped at Parris Island to visit Richard (Teresa's son) who was graduating from the Marines. Neither one of these two ladies knew that Mrs. Glaude (that's what we always called her) had problems with hemorrhoids. The three of them also visited the Washington Monument and "peed" all the way down. The trip was really hard but they laughed all the way to Florida on a shoestring budget.
